Overview

In partnership with L’Oréal, 1st90 designed a 90-day learning journey that included instructor-led live sessions, peer-to-peer coaching, and habit building leadership program for first-time people managers: Transition to People Management. The Goal of the experience was to help newly promoted people managers develop the essential leadership skills to be successful people managers in their first 12 months.


The Challenge 

Preparing new Managers to Lead their Teams effectively

In today’s world new managers are rarely given a handbook to help decode the secrets for success in their new role as People Managers. During this critical transition, training shouldn’t be an unwelcome interruption but part of the working day where they can accelerate time to align with their teams, peers, and their managers, set clear expectations, give and receive feedback and create a psychologically safe environment for their teams to do their best work.

Goals for the Program

  • Create connection between participants throughout the journey

  • Use a multi-week leadership journey format that supports large-scale cohorts of 150+ participants

  • Instructor-led modules focused on applied practice of concepts with peers in breakouts. 


The Solution 

Multi-Week Leadership Journey

Designed to support large-scale cohorts, learning focused on peer-to-peer practice along with providing tools and activities for immediate, guided application between each live session to ensure learning impact and new habits were formed.

Learning in the Flow of Work

  1. Embedded into the leader’s workday to provide experiences to practice and apply.

  2. Micro-learning to help apply tools effectively.

  3. Actions are focused and intentional to achieve the highest impact with on the job experiences.

  4. Build a community through social learning and insights shared amongst peers during the workday.
